Three men, on the bank of the Schuykill River in Hamburg. With a neat covered bridge in the background. Is the man on the right Grandpa? If so, then he either has someone else taking this picture, or else he set up a tripod.
Everyone's in a suit, and wears a hat. Did they dress up for the picture-taking, or was this the way anyone dressed when they went out for a walk? I think the latter was true.

I don't know who these men are, but Grandpa is not one of them. That's the original covered bridge over the river at State Street. It was a two-lane bridge, rather rare. It was torn down around 1926, not because it was worn out, but because modern traffic (trucks) were too tall and couldn't make it through. They built a concrete one, which IS now worn out and due to be replaced in a year or so.

that bridge amazes me. it looks like the only supports are on the two ends. no concrete 'islands' in the middle of the river to help hold it up. i'm surprised it doesn't fall into the river, and i can't imagine how they went about building it.
