01. Xmas Tree (1908)

This is the start of the next photo album of Grandpa's. He started it out with a series of yearly Christmas tree & layout pics. This one's from 1908, and he indicates it was from Front St. in Reading. Did Grammy and Grandpa live in Reading at one time?

The layout is fantastic! I like the pond made with a mirror to the right. And I think I recognize the fencing and the benches - my dad may have inherited those and I saw them on his Christmas layouts in the 1950's.

The two Christmas bears add a nice touch. And finally, it looks like this whole setting is laid out on the floor. That will eventually change.

This must have been right after they got married. They lived on Front St. in Reading when my mother was born in March 1909. This layout takes up a whole room, and has different houses and fence, and even a windmill. I wonder whose teddy bears they were, as there were no children yet.

this is the fencing that might have made it to Lenhartsville.

the teddy bears are a nice touch. and the fact that this is 1908 means Grandpa didn't just make these displays "for the kids". he genuinely loved doing these.
