Delusional skeptic, reveling in a multiple-personality disorder. Alternating between a 21st-century blogger, a 3rd-century BC Carthagenian general, a 5th-century BC druid, a 23rd-century BC Beaker-people trader, a 20th-century Estonian freedom-fighter, a time-traveler, and a sheepdog in Wyoming.
After the fireworks, us kids got to sleep on the drive back home. Do they still hold gala July 4th celebrations like this at Lititz?

Yes, Lititz still puts on a fabulous 4th of July celebration, and in fact they have a festival or art show or something almost every weekend there -- a great promotional group at work there. I remember going to the picnic there on a 4th of July around 1959 or so. Janet....
I was there at least once, maybe a couple times. 1959 sounds about right. I'd really like to see one of their 04 July shows again. I remember the floating candles, but can't picture anymore exactly what sort of waterways they were floating in. I'm hoping my Dad has more pics from Lititz that I haven't uncovered yet.
The park is called Lititz Springs, so I guess the water comes out of a spring, but they have a concrete-lined canal (maybe 5 feet wide??) going through the park, and this is what the candles are on. There was a beauty pageant too, but I am fuzzy on the details. Why I think it was 1959 is I was busy all day trying to prevent 3 antsy little boys from falling in the water! Janet
