Unknown & Old (b)

A country road to.....somewhere. Maybe taken on a Boy Scout hike. Good luck on identifying the place, I doubt it looks the same today.

here's a guess. That's a railroad on the left next to the river further left. Looks like the mountain in the distance and perhaps Hamburg. I'd say this is the old Pottsville Pike looking north from the top of 'Hughes' Hill?" as they're buiding new 61. mick.........

hmmmm. i like that theory. the common thread in all the pictures in this set is - i keep wondering why he snapped the photo. i mean, it's a nice view and all, but nothing you can't see on another dozen hills around Hamburg. But if he was taking a picture of a new road being built, that would explain the photo op.

Good for you, Mick. I think you've got it. The barn on the left and that road by it is now the road to Five Locks, with a branch of it that goes uphill and was the original road to the south. They built the Hughes Hill road maybe in the 1930s, I'm not sure but could find it in the Item. It sure looks like the approach to Hamburg in the middle background.
