Some more pics of the great flood of 1942. Grandpa lists this as being on State Street. If I had to guess, I'd say we're looking "down" (south?) State Street, maybe roughly across from 234. If so, then behind that truck is where I vaguely recall the Hamburg city Christmas tree used to be put up. Maybe.
The man on the far right is interesting. His feet are blurred cuz he's in motion, sloshing thru the floodwaters. But his face is remarkably in focus. Weird.

You're right, we're looking west-northwest on State Street in front of the hardware store toward the war memorial. Only the smaller memorial was there as the larger one was built for WWII veterans. This is the same spot as featured on some of the King Frost photos. Note men riding on the truck's running boards. mick...........
The row of horse chestnut trees on the right was a beautiful sight when they bloomed in the early summer, and a source of hundreds of shiny chestnuts (good for beaning people with, but not for eating) in the fall. Some of them are still standing !!
