Dad was quite a bit away from the parade, it was dark, using a flash was of limited value, and the subject(s) were in motion. This was "in the old days", when things like the f-stop, shutter speed, and focal point all had to be set manually.

It may be King Frost, but I don't ever recall him having to WALK in the parade. He always rode on the first float. But someone else probably decided to dress as the King too.
