Delusional skeptic, reveling in a multiple-personality disorder. Alternating between a 21st-century blogger, a 3rd-century BC Carthagenian general, a 5th-century BC druid, a 23rd-century BC Beaker-people trader, a 20th-century Estonian freedom-fighter, a time-traveler, and a sheepdog in Wyoming.
oooo, that was a fascinating article on the Appalachian Trail. i didn't know Hawk Mountain was considered to be on the trail. i do see, however, why Shower's Steps and Hawk Mountain seem so similar to me.
the map at that website shows a Boy Scout Camp on the trail. that is probably where my Boy Scout camp, Camp Shikellamy (sp?), was. i remember some of us scouts would occasionally go spend a night up on the Appalachian Trail. we'd play penny-ante poker and pokeno, since we didn't consider ourselves to be in the Boy Scout Camp anymore.
Showers' Steps were built years ago by a man named Showers, who wanted to help Mother Nature and place stones on the steep slope of the mountain like steps. We hiked up there once. It is west of Shartlesville, where Berks and Lebanon Counties meet. Janet
